From Latin America to Germany

Marianne Eilers González (b. 1997, Viña del Mar, Chile) is a director, theatre-maker and writer based in Berlin. She explores the intersections between politics, emotion and cultural identity through collaborative and immersivbe forms of performance.

Her artistic practice seeks to dissolve barriers of space, language and time in order to reach a universal emotional ground, working within the frameworks of Intracultural Theatre Practices and Immersive Theatre. As a Latin American artist in Europe, she believes that the exposure of the political and social issues lived by minority groups and Southern Hemisphere societies are vital for a mindset change to achieve greater deep transformations. Her creative process is grounded in diversity, inclusion and gender perspective. Through audience-centred and language-focused performances, she aims to build spaces where theatre becomes both a personal and a political act.

She studied Arts and Humanities at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC), specialising in Theatre Theory and Practice with minors in Literature and Psychology. During her undergraduate years, she became deeply involved in student politics as part of Nueva Acción Universitaria (NAU). where she later served as General Coordinator of the Student Union (FEUC). This experience shaped her conviction that art and politics are inseparable acts of imagination and care.

In 2021, Marianne moved to London to pursue a Master of Fine ares in Directing for Stage and Screen, graduating with honours. There, she wrote and directed Alerta, a play inspired by Latin American a multidisciplinary performance inspired by the 2018 feminist occupation of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. It premiered at the Bread and Roses Theatre in London, where it sold out its three-day run.

Now based in Germany, she combines artistic creation with educational and facilitation work, particularly with teenagers, adults and migrant communities. Her current research, “Language-focused Practices” investigates how multilingualism and personal narrative can become a tool for shaping emotion and authenticity in any narrative, helping actors navigate between distance, vulnerability and truth.

“The brilliance of Marianne as a director is her sensitivity and ingenuity with theatrical spaces. She has an ability to transport audience members to worlds in the most unique and unconventional means. During Alerta, she completely transported the audience to a protest in a Chilean university, completely throwing out the conventions of staged theatre with it.

Marianne has a huge passion for justice in her pieces. These are often politically charged without talking down to the audience. Her success as a theatre maker is in her extremely generous and large heart to trust her performers and create an ensemble that is working towards the same goal. Her patience and empathy are an incredible asset to any team.

Marianne notices the small details in creating worlds for the stage. Having her on a team will aid towards completely immersing the audience in the world of the story. She does this without cheap trickery and simply draws you into the beating heart of her productions.

Marianne is a kind, intelligent and inquisitive theatre maker that is full of unique ideas and out of the box perspetives which truly breathe a much needed stirring life into theatre. Marianne champions immersive theatre without the need for tracks, for crucial timings and for huge budgets and simply aims directly for the heart.”

Kevin Martin Murphy, Director, Writer, Actor.

“Marianne creates a rehearsal environment that is fertile ground for creativity. She does not place any expectation on the actors to sacrifice themselves for art, but, in believing in us, cultivating respect and friendship with the ensemble, and her clear utter dedication to each and every project, it makes her cast want to push themselves to create the best piece of art possible. Beyond that, her creative mind knows no bounds, often introducing new and exciting proposals in a way that is natural and informed”.

Lara Vivone, Actor.

” I have had the pleasure of collaborating with Marianne on several occasions, from university representation projects to theater productions, where I have contributed primarily in communication management. These experiences have allowed me to witness firsthand her exceptional soft skills and leadership abilities.

Marianne not only possesses solid theoretical and practical knowledge in her field but also stands out for her qualities as a person and her genuine concern for others. Always attentive and approachable, she creates a positive and collaborative work environment where every team member feels valued and heard.

Her leadership is characterized by a unique combination of empathy, assertiveness, and vision. She knows how to motivate and inspire her team, delegating responsibilities effectively and fostering autonomy, while providing consistent guidance and support. In moments of pressure, Marianne remains calm and exudes confidence, finding creative solutions and keeping the team focused on their goals.

However, beyond her professionalism and leadership skills, what truly sets Marianne apart is her passion and dedication. In every task she undertakes, she infuses a deep sense of care and enthusiasm that spreads to everyone around her. Marianne is a true inspiration, and working with her is always a rewarding experience, both professionally and personally”.
